Fatal motor vehicle accidents are at the top of the most traumatic life events for any family. It is something no one or family ever wants to experience or think about when getting into our cars and hitting the road. There are many factors that contribute to fatal car accidents, including the type of vehicle you drive.

If you are in the market for a used car, you should consider which cars are the most dangerous for you and your family members. A recent study released determined what type of vehicles were involved in the deadliest accidents. The results are not surprising, but something everyone should think about when buying a car.

Summary of the Study of the Most Dangerous Vehicles

iSeeCars.com is an automotive research and sales site that recently conducted a study on the number and types of car crash deaths in the United States. They evaluated data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and combined them with their own used car sales data. Using this information, they came up with a list of motor vehicles that were involved in the most fatal accidents per billion miles driven.

Not surprisingly, this study found that small cars and sports cars were involved in the most deadly crashes. Their results placed the Mitsubishi Mirage at number one with the Chevy Corvette at number two for the most occupant fatalities. The Mirage is a subcompact car and the Corvette is a sports car. At the other end of the ranking, sports utility vehicles had the lowest fatal crash rate. The study revealed that occupant deaths from car crashes occur almost twice as often in subcompact cars and sports cars compared to the average vehicle

Although, the Mirage was determined to be one of the most inexpensive vehicles on the market, according to this study serious consideration of safety should be well-thought-out over costs.

What Rights do Families Have When A Loved One is Fatally Injured in a Crash?

The loss of a loved one under any circumstance is a traumatic and life-changing event. However, it can sometimes be more difficult to cope with the death of a loved one that was caused by the carelessness or recklessness of another person. Family members are left with not only the pain and heartache of their loss, but also with the financial burden that often results from a fatal accident. While only time can help to heal the emotional pain, legal action by way of a personal injury claim or wrongful death action can help to relieve the financial hardship.

In Massachusetts, family members have the legal right to pursue a wrongful death claim or lawsuit against the negligent driver that caused the accident and death of their loved one. The wrongful death action would seek to hold the at-fault driver accountable for his or her negligent actions and compensate the decedent’s survivors.

The compensation the surviving family members may seek include the medical bills the loss of the reasonably expected net income, services, protection, care, assistance, society, companionship, comfort, guidance, counsel, and advice of the decedent to the persons entitled to the damages recovered.  In addition, the laws in Massachusetts allow the survivors to collect the reasonable funeral and burial expenses of the decedent.

A family that experiences the traumatic and stressful consequences of a fatal motor vehicle accident should consult with an experienced Massachusetts personal injury attorney. An experienced lawyer can help families navigate the complicated insurance claims process and fight to get families the compensation they deserve for their loss. This will help relieve some of the burden a family may have to deal with in these awful situations so they can focus on grieving and caring for the surviving family members.
