Welcome to the first issue of our newsletter! Each month, we'll discuss a variety of personal injury and workers’ compensation topics and bring you interesting case stories and firm news—all to better serve you.
As the new coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread across Massachusetts and our country, many are cautiously complying with the stay-at-home orders and advisories. While we are being vigilant, too, Joe and I remain available and committed to our clients and continue to work toward obtaining the financial compensation and benefits they deserve.
Additionally, I am investigating and researching the rights and availability of workers’ compensation benefits for workers in Massachusetts who contract COVID-19 in the course of their employment. Inevitably, the impact of this novel virus will require unique and skilled representation for affected workers.
We wish all of you and your family well, and if you have any feedback to help us improve the newsletter, drop me a line and let me know what you think!

$60,000 for a Restaurant Worker With a Knee Injury

A 52-year-old woman fell at work and seriously injured her knee. After days of severe pain, she went to her doctor. The worker’s compensation insurance company initially refused to pay our client disability benefits because of the delay in seeking medical attention and questions about the extent of her injury. She was extremely worried and stressed about the insurance company’s denial because she was unable to work, had no money coming in, and had day-to-day bills that needed to be paid. We immediately filed a claim on her behalf.

The Workers' Compensation Insurance Organization (WCIO) recently announced that it had updated its claim codes to include a cause of injury code for pandemic, and a nature of injury code for COVID-19.
While details weren't provided in the announcement, the move presumably creates the right for certain employees to pursue a claim for workers' comp benefits after contracting COVID-19 in the course of their employment. We take a look at who might qualify under this new injury code.

A man, who was seriously injured on the job in Marlborough, Massachusetts, had another lawyer representing him in his workers' compensation case. When the other lawyer wasn't able to get this injured employee the workers' compensation benefits he deserved, he turned to Attorney Charles Pappas. Attorney Pappas got right to work and ultimately secured a very favorable lump sum settlement. Here is a brief note from this satisfied client:
"I was working with another lawyer who was unable to help me in the manner in which I needed. Charles Pappas stepped right in, took over, and created a pathway for me to obtain the ultimate result. I would not be as satisfied as I am now, if it was not for his hard work and diligence."
