Here is a great example of why you should report your work injury right away.
One of our clients was hurt at work. He was alone on a job site, twisted his knee, and felt pain right away. He tried to ignore the pain and walk it off. He did not report the injury to his boss or supervisor until weeks later when he learned that he had a torn meniscus in his knee. He is now out of work and needs to have surgery. The Employer’s worker’s compensation insurance carrier is denying his claim and are refusing to pay workers compensation benefits (i.e., medical benefits and disability or out of work benefits). They are arguing that he never reported it and thus there is no evidence that his injury occurred on the job.
So now our client has no money coming in to support his family. We have filed a claim for disability benefits and are awaiting our court date.
Don’t let this happen to you. If you injure yourself at work, tell someone right away regardless of whether you think it was something minor or not. It could make the difference between getting your benefits right away or having to fight for them.
