Massachusetts Law Regarding Insurance Policies

In Massachusetts, our laws require drivers to carry automobile insurance. Although our laws require it, not all drivers on the road have insurance. The underinsured motorist may carry a minimum amount of insurance, which means there may not be enough to cover the expenses of your accident, including:

Massachusetts law also makes uninsured motorist claims mandatory for all insurance policies. Therefore, in cases where you have been hit by an uninsured motorist, you may recover damages/money from your own insurance company.
Underinsured insurance coverage, however, is optional. You should check with your insurance agent to see if you have underinsured coverage or what the cost is to add it to your policy. Typically the cost is minimal.
