Joseph M. Mahaney has over 26 years of litigation experience in criminal and civil cases in both Federal and State Court. Attorney Mahaney spent seventeen years as a partner in the firm McLaughlin, Richards & Mahaney, LLP, and served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.
Attorney Mahaney has extensive trial experience in both criminal and civil jury trials in Massachusetts Superior Court, District Court and United States District Court. He has successfully argued before the Massachusetts Appeals Court.
Attorney Mahaney's court room cross-examination of an arresting police officer in a DUI trial is featured in the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Trying OUI Cases in Massachusetts. In this trial Attorney Mahaney meticulously cross-examined this police officer, which earned a quick acquittal for his client. His style and technique is used by MCLE to teach other lawyers how to handle and try DUI cases in Massachusetts.
Attorney Mahaney has represented numerous Plaintiffs in lawsuits against police departments throughout the State in the United States District Court alleging violations of their Federal Civil Rights under 42 U.S.C. §1983. He has represented and fought for prison inmates in a Federal Civil Rights Class Action lawsuit for extreme abuse suffered at the hands of correctional officers.
